Health, Happiness, and Friendships
Inside Other: The Eagle Flies Over the Lake Due to heavy snows in Kansas, Missouri Pacific's Train No. 11, The Colorado Eagle, is running several hours late on its flight from St. Louis to Denver one moonlit December night in the early 1950's. As the beautiful blue and gray Alco PA-2 with a stainless steel eagle on its nose crests the highest point on its trip, 7,237-ft. at Palmer Lake, Colorado, a southbound Rio Grande freight train passes on the other side of the lake. The villagers as well as The Eagle's passengers are peacefully sleeping and probably won't notice the spectacle of the trains passing under the star on Sundance Mountain. The town displays the star, which measures 500 feet from tip to tip, annually from December 1st to January 1st to remind train crews and all passers-by of the joy and serenity of the holiday season.
