Inside Other: The Yankee Clipper Pride of the New Haven Railroad's great fleet of passenger trains, the Yankee Clipper debuted in 1930 as an all-Pullman, extra-fare express train of outstanding luxury and impeccable service. Each parlor car on the Yankee Clipper of this era was named after a famous New England clipper ship. Headed by one of the railroad's well-tended I-4 Pacifics, the train made the run between New York and Boston in four-and-three-quarter hours. These elegantly streamlined engines became national icons, as they were prominently featured on the New Haven's timetables and advertising material until the advent of electric and diesel locomotives in the late 1940's.
