on the Truckee River
Having left Reno, Nevada and following the Truckee River in afternoon shadows,
three Southern Pacific 20-cylinder diesels begin their climb to lug freight
over the Sierra Mountains into California. The SD45T-2 engine #9247
and its running mate (the second unit) were two of 23 built in 1972, while the
third engine is an SD45, one of 356 built for the railroad in the late 1960s. This
