Stop at Chester In the days when Chester, Pennsylvania was a small but prominent city with bustling crowds and whining buses, a familiar sight may have been a Pennsylvania Railroad northbound train making an unscheduled stop on a frigid storm-ridden afternoon atop 5th Street and the heart of the downtown area. The station platform was elevated, as was much of the mainline down into Wilmington, Delaware. Chester is located on the four-track, electrified Pennsylvania Railroad "race track" between Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. The big GG-1 locomotive is humming impatiently, anxious to get rolling again with its coaches full of holiday passengers.
