Thinking of you at this happy time of year
and hoping your Christmas is bright with joy and cheer!
Home for the Holidays Coal smoke and warm steam mixes with frigid snow to create a wispy tableau of the golden age of passenger trains in America. It's Christmas Eve, and the legendary Overland Limited glides to a smooth stop at one of the sleepy towns along its transcontinental journey from the mild shores of San Francisco Bay to Chicago, on icy Lake Michigan. Inaugurated in 1899, the Overland Limited is considered "one of the most radiant and celebrated trains of America." Operated by the Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, and Chicago and North Western railroads, this all-Pullman, extra-fare train makes a daily 2189-mile run between the Golden Gate and the Windy City. Tonight, there's a ubiquitous joy permeating the train. At each stop, passengers gleefully disembark to be home for the holidays with their family and friends.
