The Mountain Tunnel
A group of skiers meets a 4-6-0 steam
engine as it emerges from a tunnel on a snow-covered mountain pass. The locomotive
was built in 1920 by the Baldwin works of Philadelphia for the Alaska
Engineering Commission, to be used on the 3-foot gauge Alaska Railroad that
ran out of Fairbanks to the coal mines of Nenana and the gold rush town of Chatanika.
An example can be seen today at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan.
